  • KeithFarrell Some fighters are just born lucky, Jones is a perfect example of this.

But he also has incrdible talent and work ethic.

  • jesse when jon jones beat shogun he says anyone can acheive their dreams with hard work and determination, but jon is the worst person to say that that cuz hes a physical freak of nature, and by that i mean his build is perfect for mma Reply 8 months ago

  • mousasi Weak this guy all you want, and weak me too, but...

Jones achieved his "dream" at the age of 23. He comes from a family of very successful athletes. He grew up in a middle class home in a small town, not in some ghetto on the streets.

I am not saying he did not work hard to achieve his dreams. I am not blind to the fact that being a world champion in anything takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication.

But I will say this. Jon Jones story is much more one of incredible talent and opportunity than one of working hard and overcoming hardship.

If Court McGee one day becomes UFC Champion and he says it... it will carry a heckuva lot more weight.

  • scrappymcgee He had a kid when he was young. His goal was to finish school so he can take care of her. That is a hardship.
The bad part was convincing his then to be wife to let him try to become a pro fighter. That is also hardship.
Other than that he lived a pretty lax life.

  • phacemon How do you know he lived a pretty lax life? Is that because you know him and his history personally? Just wondering Reply 8 months ago

  • thexperience1 If that's considered a "hardship" 40% of the teenage human population is MISERABLE !! come on now... how many people do you know with 3 JOBS and NO kids... They don't complain they get up every f*ckin morning at 6.30 am to get ready for work, to achieve their dream. At the end of the day it's all a "choice" nobody forces you in a situation like that. You make choices and you pay the price... Jones is no ghetto child homey... and i don't have to know him personally to know. Real recognize real... eyes never lie!

all that aside i'm a Jones fan... but i don't think he's keeping this belt! He's an amazing athlete but Rampage can endure his punishment... the other way around IM NOT SO SURE !! as matter of fact i'm positive he can't take a few of Rampage shots. The only way i see Jones take this is by sub IF he can take Rampage down and doesn't get knocked the f*ck out before they even touch the ground.. and that's a BIG IF !! cause Rampage Wrestling/TDD is VERY underrated! cause he hasn't been showing it lately...

  • phacemon I never asked if Jones was a ghetto kid. I asked how scrappymcgee knew Jones had a lax life. One doesn't have to be a ghetto kid to have hardships or not have such a "lax life." On another note, I think this fight will be the biggest test for Jones and it will show us how good he really is. Reply 8 months ago

  • codemaster One thing many people forget is that a long reach in standup also translates to long elbows in GnP. Jones has crucial inches of reach when he is in his opponent's guard--and this allows him to do damage from guard easier than those with less wingspan.

The pressure of his elbows opens up submissions as his opponent turns in desperation to get away from the damage.

  • RabbitPuncher Tyson was also a tremendous athlete even though he lacked the proportions of Jones. He was exceptionally elusive while standing in the pocket while delivering damage via multi punch combo's. His mentor Cus Damato and coach Kevin Rooney trained him to fight with his mind and body. But he too was a young champ and fame and fortune quickly went to his head, especially after the death of Cus. Reply 8 months ago
