Josh Koscheck blasts Yves Lavigne for comments, the Referee says he did not make
UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck, who will meet division champ Georges St. Pierre at UFC 124 in Montreal, used his official website as a platform to fire back at French-Canadian referee Yves Lavigne today. In one of several controversial remarks, Lavigne recently suggested (WatchKalibRun.com) that Koscheck was afraid to exchange in his last bout against the heavy-handed Brit Paul Daley.
“Josh’s last fight at the Bell Center, Josh was afraid to strike and was happy to hold Daley on the ground. The crowd booed and Daley, upset at the strategy, punched him after the bell,” Lavigne told Canoe.com
Kos wasted no time before sharing his thoughts on the comments, questioning Lavigne's integrity as a referee.
“UFC referee, Yves Lavigne is clearly not suited to be a referee after his rant of personal attacks and opinions on me as a fighter. It’s supposed to be his job to look at a fight unbiased, but how can anyone trust this guy to fairly referee any fight ever again after his comments? It’s scary to think this guy has been calling fights in the octagon for this long. It’s very fair to say Mr. Lavigne will never ref one of my fights again. I would never put all my hard work as a fighter or my livelihood in the hands of this ref.
The (UFC) and the commission would be irresponsible to let him continue his job- any call this guy makes would have to be questioned. You call MMA a professional sport? Well, professional starts at the top. Never would an NFL, NBA or other major sports official state there personal opinions publicly about a player and keep their job. I now question every call Yves has ever made as a referee. Hopefully no fighter ever has to step into a fight with Yves Lavigne as referee. Better get that resume ready Lavigne…..”
However, the plot thickens. According to the Twitter account of David Simon (the host of Ringside Report Radio on The Team 990 AM in Montreal), Yves Lavigne never gave the interview that Koscheck is responding to: "Just got off the phone with Yves Lavigne. He claims he never gave the interview to Le Journal."
Simon goes on to post comments he says Lavigne himself sent via email:
1. I NEVER gave an interview to that journalist
2. I NEVER gave an interview regarding GSP vs Koscheck
3. My lawyer is taking care of this matter.
Stay tuned to LowKick.com for more news as we await official word from the UFC and/or Yves Lavigne.

Lavigne has had a few questionable calls and has often been the target of booing from the fans.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Koscheck has it right. if these things have been said they show a major bias. If Lavigne did say these things then he should be replaced in a second!
He does get the benefit of the doubt until the truth comes out. Reply 1 year ago
So far as Levigne is concerned, If this is an internet driven lie (that Levigne said this), then Levigne should be pissed but even that is barely actionable since there aren't any real damages here. Sure, he COULD sue, but it would go no where - I doubt he will.
Josh's overreaction is telling BTW. Reply 1 year ago
yves probably gonna get cut

If one reads the statement, one which Lavigne denies making, it's in "past tense" and it's an educated opinion; it demonstrates no bias.
Koscheck calls the statement the following - a rant, when clearly is is not. He refers to it in the plural "attacks" & "comments", when it's nothing more then one remark, comprised of two sentences; 35 words.
"Scary" - if this scares Koscheck then he's a pussy.
"It’s very fair to say Mr. Lavigne will never ref one of my fights again" - LOL!!! Koscheck "the powerful", will tell the UFC, the fight commissions and the fans, who will and will not call one of his fights - LOL!!!! That's just funny. The UFC doesn't control who the referees and even DW can't get rid of a bad one, powerless to do so, but JK will just snap his fingers and that will be that. Again - LOL!!!
"The (UFC) and the commission would be irresponsible to let him continue ..."..."professional starts at the top"..."Never would an NFL, NBA..." First - Lavigne is not at the top of the UFC, he's not even connected to the UFC; he's not an employee of the UFC - period. Secondly, he's implying that he knows better then White, Silva and the "F" brothers and he also leaves open the implication that the UFC / MMA are not on the same par as other professional sports. Really, Josh?
"I now question every call Yves has ever made as a referee." Actually, so do I, Josh. I question why he didn't stand JK up every two seconds in that fight, rather then allowing that gutless, cowardly, clock-killing, point(s) victory you were "allowed" to "eek" out.
My advice to Yves - next time you get this idiot...stand him up and keep standing him up. Unless of course, he's on the bottom in a GSP beating festival. Then...let it go on.
I can't stand Koscheck. I hope he has to fight GSP in Montreal and with YL as the referee. And I hope GSP subs the @#$% - er; but only after grinding on him for a round or two. Reply 1 year ago
I myself would have some bad feelings if I got Sucker punched then found out the ref oviously doesnt like me because hes American?
It might even piss me off enough to fire back. Reply 1 year ago
