James Toney: Boxing is a tougher sport
James Toney, who recently signed to the UFC keeps on talking about how boxing is better than MMA and how he’s is going to make a successful transition from boxing to MMA. In a recent interview Toney said not only is boxing tougher but MMA fighters kick like girls.
"If they think I'm going to go in there and get choked out or lay down and get my arm barred and all that, they got another thing coming to 'em, you know what I'm saying? Like I said, yeah, you're right; MMA is not like boxing because boxing is tougher, you know what I'm saying? I look at it like this, if a guy get in there and try to take me to the ground, he might see his head go into orbit. The head is going into orbit, for real.
These guys in MMA, they good wrestlers and good grapplers and good kickers, like girls, but, you know, when it comes to throwing them blows, they ain't got a chance in hell, you know what I'm saying? Then they say I don't got a chance if I go to the floor.”
Toney still believes that he is too strong to get taken down or submitted and if anyone comes close to taking him down they will get knocked out before they can touch him but now he taking his trashing talking even further as he is now starting to criticize the kicking power of a MMA fighter and the overall toughness of this sport.
When asked about his possible future opponent, Randy Couture, Toney said that he respects Couture but he is still going to get knocked out.
"Randy Couture, he respects my game like I respect his game. He's the best at what he do in his sport; I'm the best at what I do in my sport. We gonna see who has the better style and everybody know it's James Toney. If he tries to throw blow for blow with me, he definitely gonna get knocked out. That's a given, you know what I'm saying? If he tries to take me to the ground, it ain't going to be easy, you know what I'm saying? He's still gonna get knocked out. Either way, it's a lose-lose situation for him."
James Toney is rumored to make his UFC debut at either UFC 115 or 116.

toney is a heavyhanded guy , couture not!
couture has the wrestling thing that everyone thinks is advantage
but couture is greco-roman wrestling! he must clinch first !
and to do that he must come close to toney! and he could get hit!
and randy dosent have the best chin now with his age!
he has been ko .
what im trying to say is he should fight a youngers fighter!
a really good diverse striker! like Dos Santos!
a guy who can also kick and knee! not just punchs!
or a good wrestler! who take toney down with doble legs !
Cain Velazquez! style!
because if toney get a lucky punch and KO a legend in MMA! like randy
that would hurt a lot the sport of MMA!
and his credibility! as a better and improve sport!
in my opinion Dos Santos being taller younger and faster would own toney round 1! Reply 2 years ago
I had no idea he was fighting Randy for his 1st MMA fight. If Randy gets a hold of him HE IS GOING DOWN. That's a given.
Randy's chin will not take one of Toneys punches so as long as he can stay away from his hands he'll be ok. That might not be too tough for a veteran of the sport.
Like I suspected before. I reckon Dana wants Toney shut up & his ass handed to him on the ground. There probably isn't a better wrestler along with ground & pound ability in UFC in that weight division than Randy.
I predict a 1st round stoppage & cutting equipment called in to remove Randys elbows from Toney's mouth!
Toney has pissed me off now with his mouth & Randy needs to put MMA back on the top of the combat sports map! Reply 2 years ago
Thats all I have to say after reading this. Reply 2 years ago
F*ck randy give him Mirko. Let him take a kick from cro-cop and see how he is doing after that. Reply 2 years ago
i honestly do not think that randy is a bad match up for toney. randy really hasn't been a takedown type of wrestler and will likely try to use his greco stand up controll and isn't really a "kickboxing" type striker as much as a "boxing" type striker, essentially randy is the MMA equivalent to a "in fighter". toney has allways been a counter striker/in fighter, randy's close in clinch fighting will actually put toney into one of his comfortable striking ranges, tho he will likely never have worked a clinch the class of Coutures.
toney in reality actually has some good match ups in the LHW division, lots of the UFC LHW's don't really focus on grappling (tho they have efficent enough grappling to defend at minimum) and i could see lots of them trying to stand with toney.
similar to Rashad standing with Machida, Machida is in his own right a world champion class striker, yet Rashad still tried to make a stand up fight out of it without even attempting to take Machida down. i could see lots of LHW's tring to do the same with toney just to be able to say "i KO'ed a boxing champion" Reply 2 years ago

toney is goin to get the shit kicked out of him! Reply 2 years ago
i think toney just knows how to get a fight some press, good or bad either way it sells PPV's and tickets.
i really don't see UFC putting Toney and Kimbo together so soon, as Kimbo is essentially a lesser version of what Toney promises to be, a highly skilled boxer. they will probally give kimbo another journyman type opponet and then maybe if he wins a fight with toney "whos the baddest man from the streets" type of blacksplotation fight name.
