DabsWTF!!!??? Jake Shields is 185 Champion so why is Dana saying he is 170? That makes no sense. Shields was talking about fighting Anderson Silva and is a top ranked MIDDLEWEIGHT.
Dana talks some sense, then he talks complete shite after like a school boy that wants to get the last word in and be "proven" right or better.... Reply2 years ago

Rigowell for UFC fans , jake shields was a welterweight for most of his carrer!
he was the ELITEXC welterweight champion defeating the newcomer in the UFC paul daley! at the last ELITEXC event!
hes a legit 170! the only reason he went up to 185 was because of his friend Nick Diaz who was going for the title at 170 so thats why jake move up to 185! but hes a legit 170
185 is too much for him! but still hes been able to do good but in the UFC vs guys like anderson , nate , franklin not so much!
im shock that dana thinks shields will submit henderson and then steal him in vengance of strikeforce "stealing " hendo!
dana next time pay what a legend like henderson deserves! Reply2 years ago

51JD51Shields was the Elite XC welterweight champ and most ppl agree he'd be better sutied to still be fighting at 170lbs so that's what Dana's getting at. So it's basically a guy who can be fighting at 205 against a guy who should be fighting at 170 which is why no one is giving shields a chance Reply2 years ago

IChokePeopleYou're spot on. Not only that but Dana shows what a douche he really is. He says over and over that he has no problem with Coker. In fact< he say's he likes him. He also say's he has no problem with Strikeforce in a number of interviews. Here he says that his problem isn't even with Showtime, it is with one guy there. So, to get at one guy he is willing to attempt a sabotage of an event put on by a company he has no problem with run by a guy he claims to like? Oh, and he knows that Shields is the middle weight champion. It just doesn't go with the narrative Dana is selling so he conveniently forgets that this is an absolutely legit fight. In fact it is a lot like B.J. Penn fighting GSP so Dana really has no argument. Reply2 years ago

a222gIts sad for Strikeforce but i agree no matter how good they become their just a middle ground for fighters on the rise, and fighters on the demise. Once a fighter gets good enough in Strikeforce most would jump in a heart beat to the UFC if given the offer because that is most fighters dream to get to the UFC. Strikeforce will invest and promote their best talent just to have them jump ships once they reach a certain level. It really works well for the UFC let someone else develop a fighter with their resources, then take them away. The only good thing for the fighters is that it gives them a home once they get booted out of the UFC they atleast have a few years left in a mid level organization. I like competition its just the reality of the situation sucks. Reply2 years ago

borealis19Dana While sounds like a villain hell-bent on destroying an enemy...The Strikeforce won't even meditate firing their champion Jake Shields...Whatever DW says about that is a full load of lies...Dana White's strategy in expressing interest in Jake Shileds is to "DIVIDE AND CONQUER"...........i DON'T THINK he'll succeed in doing so...The Strikeforce is there to stay............ ShaftWonder why some ufc drones are so bent on getting rid of strikeforce? Are you a bunch of fookin commies? Competition is good - it's the american way. Wtf good will it do if Dana rules supreme? More Brick Lesnar clowns, more Kimbo- I-cant-even-win-in-TUF-Slice hype? Giving fighters the option to move to other orgs like strikforce at least gives them some bargaining position against slave master Dana. And that can only improve the ufc and mma overall. Then again maybe the drones aren't mma fans, just sad ufc fanboys? Reply2 years ago

ston3ponyDidn't see your comment memphis, you're exactly right. Co-promotion is a big part of what destroyed boxing. It breeds corruption, it destroys a sport. When is the last time the Strikeforce HW "champion" fought?
It is absolutely stupid to have 20 different champions in 20 different organizations. Jokeforce will tank, they will be acquired by the UFC, and the 3-4 worthy fighters will be picked up.
Can't wait for that, it will be so awesome to see Fedor fighting the best competition. I don't think he would go undefeated if he fought the top-5 UFC HW's. Reply2 years ago

bantamThank you Memphis, People who think that competition is good for MMA need to realize something. Competition between organizations is terrible because it leaves to doubt who the best fighter is at any given weight class. The UFC already puts on 12-14 shows a year. They already have the blueprint for spreading MMA around the world. All Strikeforce is doing right now is preventing some amazing fights Reply2 years ago

ston3ponyAgreed. There simply aren't enough fighters in MMA to split up in the first place. How many pro-boxers are there? Thousands? How many pro MMA fighters are there? A few hundred? I think the entire UFC is less than 300?
The UFC is the best business model, hands down. Many organizations have come and gone, they all tank. It's better to pay the fighters a little less while the sport is still growing, than to bankrupt your organization by paying huge purses. The UFC model perpetuates a long term venue for fighters to keep fighting. Reply2 years ago

ZathYep, they fight all around the world. Then you get champs like Overeem who hasn't defended his title in what, 2 years? He keeps fighting in Dream or K1 or whatever place won't test him for roids. How does that make Strikeforce stronger against the UFC? Lesnar hasn't fought in almost a year and they are already putting an interim belt in place.
I agree that competition is good in all things. I don't want to see Strikeforce make the same mistakes as Affliction, Elite XC and the others that didn't make it. Half of Strikeforces problem is that on the really big paydays that Fedor is fighting, they have to give half the profits to M1 and on top of that, they still have to pay Fedor his fight money which has to be around 4 - 5 million per fight. How does Strikeforce stay competitive with deals like this? Reply2 years ago

jordan1990just to clear things up...Dana thinks dan henderson will beat shields. But if shields wins then "good for him". He clearly says that shields is a 170 fighter, which is true, and is a decent 170 fighter, again which is true. So No he doesnt think jake is better than dan. If jake is on his last fight, then why not give him say a 3 fight deal in the ufc. It makes sense! Also by taking one of strikeforces top guys away, it strengthens the ufc. Reply2 years ago
