Dana White: Carlos Condit has accepted the rematch with Nick Diaz
Only hours after we speculated about four possible routes for Nick Diaz following the controversial "L" at last weekend's scrap with Carlos Condit, UFC President Dana White confirmed via Twitter that The Natural Born Killer has agreed to rematch with the former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion.

As a quick reminder, here's what Carlos Condit's manager, Malki Kawa, had to say only two days ago about a possible rematch with Nick Diaz (via MMAFighting.com):
"At this point, (a rematch) is not something we’re looking to do. We're looking for Georges (St. Pierre). People forget, Carlos waited a long time to get this fight. He was moved around, and shuffled around between fights. He won the fight. It doesn't interest us at all. I think clearly and decisively, he won the fight. Even (UFC president) Dana (White) scored it for him. All of the opinions that matter scored Carlos as the winner. ... The fans disagree (with the decision) because they got hyped up to see Nick Diaz and GSP fight each other. Well, let them fight each other. We’ve moved on."
Today, it looks like Nick Diaz will have to postpone his speculated retirement, for another shot at what is now Carlos Condit's Interim UFC Welterweight title.
Georges St. Pierre's tweet about still hoping for a fight with Nick Diaz, the French-Canadian's recovery schedule, millions of fans labeling the UFC 143 main event as "robbery of the year", and perhaps Carlos Condit's personal pride may all have influenced the New Mexican's decision to accept the rematch. One way or another, MMA fans around the world are up for another thriller, or if you will, a blockbuster sequel between Condit and Diaz.

hahahahaha
But I think he will still outpoint Diaz :S It sucks ,cause I wanna see GSP pund away on Diaz Reply 3 months ago
But Condit shows his confidence and is going to shut up all the haters. Reply 3 months ago
but we also need to pay attention to the payroll after this fight , i guarantee dana through a lot more money at him Reply 3 months ago
The way I see it, if Condit wins against Diaz again, taking the rematch could have two outcomes:
- Keeping active will allow Condit to go to work as soon as he gets in there, we saw him look a little bit hesitant in the early round against Diaz but really opened up and looked better every passing minute. GSP will probably come into the fight with at least 18 months out of the octagon while Condit will be just a few months out of a potential 25 minute fight.
This could be a huge factor and I'm sure it will be highly talked about but we see cage rust having less and less effect (Rashad vs. Ortiz, Sonnen vs. Stann just a couple that come to mind), GSP is known for taking a long time in between fights as well.
- Depending when GSP comes back, say Nov which atm is what is being guessed, Carlos may only have a few months to get ready for the fight with GSP. Part of me feels Condit should've waited so he had a very long time to train only for George because he is going to need to train his wrestling like nothing else for him. Hopefully the re-match doesn't happen too far into the future as it could hamper Condit's fight with GSP. Carlos was out wrestled by Kampmann so I think he needs a good long camp to work on his wrestling for George. Reply 3 months ago
For example, a Hardy fan would say Condit got the knockout against him because his hook was simply better and had more power, a Hardy nuthugger would say it was pure luck if they fought again Hardy would win.
Nuthuggers are annoying, fans are cool. Reply 3 months ago
Carlos Condit - 26/28 of wins finished
Jon Jones - Stopped his last 8 opponents including 3 world champions Reply 3 months ago
Both will head toe to toe. Winner takes it all.
Carlos with his 8 limbs technique? or will it be Diaz boxing technique?
I guess we will have to wait and see.
Let the game begin! Reply 3 months ago
And besides we still dont know if Nick has retired or not! Reply 3 months ago
In that case the UFC's roster is 95% average Reply 3 months ago
Say Jones' first Contract was 8 fights long (obviously wasn't) then he would get the same base pay for showing up and winning for fighting Jake O'Brien as he would for fighting for the belt against Shogun.
At least that's the assumption going off Cesar. Reply 3 months ago
I checked up and the only person to ever defend an interim belt was Andrei Arlovski and he won. Mir then had to relinquish the belt due to his motorcycle accident, so then Arlovski was promoted to undisputed champ and made another successful title defense before succumbing to the OUTSTANDING Sylvia...
From what I can see, interim and undisputed title defenses are counted separately. Reply 3 months ago
I think no-matter the outcome of the re-match, GSP will have a huge fight when he comes back.
The Diaz fight will always be huge but if Condit wins again, after a first time non-stellar performance, it will surely make Condit seem like even more of a threat. Reply 3 months ago
I would say Kos would maybe beat them but it's a really uninteresting idea as if GSP comes back because he will run through Kos again. Kos even said himself he wants a title shot since GSo is out and hopes GSP never comes back.
So considering all that, yea the rematch is probably the best option. Reply 3 months ago
Thake a good look at the fight rond 1 and 2 were close butt all Diaz did was come forward and Condit pik his shots, and the takedown in the 5th rond, came to late and he did't do any damage. I do like Diaz butt he did't do what he had to do. Reply 3 months ago
People who say it was all Diaz either don't understand the scoring or are just being biased. Reply 3 months ago
It's mind sets like that which will put down anyone who beats their "homeboy" even if it was a 5 round Shogun Hendo but they hate it even more when it's a one sided technical beat down.
Condit landed more than 10 heavy leg kicks while Diaz just followed talking trash to him int he first round. Diaz landed less than half of his chasing jabs (no power unless against cage).
Try to be subjective andnot biased then come back and say who won. Reply 3 months ago
Condit was the last welterweight champion of the WEC!!!!
And the WEC are doing pretty good in the UFC right now.. Reply 3 months ago
The WEC fighters are doing prety good in the UFC right now... Reply 3 months ago
Notice how Dana says "Condit has agreed" but nothing about Diaz. I hope he doesn't retire. Reply 3 months ago
You could've chosen you're fights better there lol Reply 3 months ago
Do you see the serious lack of logic there? Reply 3 months ago
Diaz's argument that he is stronger, quicker, etc. holds no water. The bigger, stronger armies in history have often been defeated by a smarter strategy. Are their any rematches in history?
Carlos was running away, uh? Why didn't you catch him, take him down, beat him up, etc? No, my friend, a loss is a loss.
Ali beat Forman by standing in the corner and covering up with his gloves. Forman was much much stronger. He had no plan. He lost.
Was there a rematch between Ali and Forman, because Forman was stronger and Ali covered up? Reply 3 months ago
I know it's cute to think that the belt means everything to these guys but in the end the all mighty dollar means more. Reply 3 months ago
Condit won the fight outright. there was nothing controversial about it apart from ****heads whining because their fighter lost. Great gameplan - picked Diaz apart with in and out combinations.
If Condit is to have a fight before GSP then Diaz should be last on the list as he just outclassed him comfortably.
I can see why this fight is going ahead because of numbskull Diaz fans and $$$$ but Diaz isn't going to do much different next time. He will talk smack and try and pin his opponent to unload on and wave his arms about every time Condit lands a good shot or won't stay in one spot long enough to hit him and Condit will just pick him apart again with great movement and technical striking. The only thing Diaz might do more is leg kicks as he could and should have thrown more at Condit rather than waiting for him to stay still.
Makes a total mockery of the UFC and MMA this shit going down but at least it will shut up all you fans who would struggle with the concept of what winning a fight means. Reply 3 months ago
I bet he makes 1 million dollars total for accepting this route and that beats the crap out of sitting for 6 months not making crap.
What would you do? Carlos isnt stupid and Im sure he didnt accept the fight to simply earn respect, in his mind he won so its about the money and his family. I'll bet what balls you have thats the truth.
Dana wouldnt even pick up the phone if he didnt have a wad of cash in his pocket to work with. Reply 3 months ago
