Overeem confirms Brett "The Grim" Rogers fight on May 15th
Speaking today, Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ Alistair Overeem has officially confirmed that he's scheduled to fight Brett Rogers sometime in May. While no official word has been received from Strikeforce, Overeems himself said:
"He's an excellent opponent," Overeem said of Rogers. "I'm looking forward to smack his face and his loud mouth. I'm really happy that Strikeforce came with this fight so now we can settle things once and for all."
Alistair "The Demolition Man" Overeem was originally rumored to fight the Pound-for-Pound King Fedor Emelianenko. According to the Dutchman, as long as Fedor's management decides about who he is going to fight, the bout is not going to happen anytime soon. :
"Fedor doesn't want to fight. His manager doesn't want to fight. That's basically the message I'm getting out of all of this. The management said, 'Yeah, we want to fight Alistair, but first, Alistair must fight somebody else.' Basically, you need two parties to agree on a fight. Otherwise it's not going to happen."
The event will take place on May 15th, and is expected to be a non title bout. Overeem is yet to defend his belt since defeating Paul Buentello to win it in 2007. It's uncertain why the title is not on the line. Rogers holds an impressive 10-1 record, his only loss coming against Fedor Emilianenko.

I wonder why...
It would actually pose to be a challenge so of course the bout is not going to happen anytime soon. Reply 2 years ago
The stupid people with dented egos here should leave and never come back. Reply 2 years ago
Its called FREINDS lol, its obvious you dont have many.
2ndly you cant tell anyone anything toughguy Reply 2 years ago
Fedor beat Rogers so no, he does not deserve a title shot but quit slobbering on Fedors ball sack! Reply 2 years ago
Overroid, should not be fighting Rogers for a non title bout!
No one should fight Overroid at all unless it IS a title bout, and it certainly shouldnt be Rogers. Fedor is the top guy in line for that fight & that shot, this is why among other crap that M-1 is sick of their noob asses and I cant blame them. Reply 2 years ago
How does Fedor fit in the conversation. He obviously doesnt want the title shot for obvious reasons so just leave it alone. Reply 2 years ago
So IF he manages to get through the drugtests, is that really a fight we wanna see? First of all, a NON title bout? Secondly, do we wanna see Rogers potentially get his career ruined because of losing to someone who is obviously cheating?
We have to remember, aliistair was being knocked out left and right in Pride at 205 pounds, and at the time i remember thinking "why are they still keeping him around?" but NOW at 265 (!) pounds he is a huge monster who is seemingly unstoppable, even knocking out respected champions in k-1.
The steroids has revived alistairs career, and i think its not being punished hard enough by the fans. Most people are letting him off the hook way to easily. Reply 2 years ago
If the HW belt is on the line and Fedor is not holding or defending it, it sends a message that he is not good enough to hold or contend for it. Its a crock! We need to see Fedor-Overeem this year for the title. Reply 2 years ago
It's not a title fight because if rogers KTFO Overeem then we dont get the fight we want to see. Reply 2 years ago
He has proven himself... he doesn't need that anymore. He now wants his fight to have class, excibit technique, and not just a bloody onslaught. Reply 2 years ago
Thy let overeeem fight after 2 years and its not a tittle bout?
Thats just sad haha !
Overeem wil win this fight btw knee to the head ! Reply 2 years ago
Does anyone think this or Overeem's actions would be tolerated in UFC? Reply 2 years ago
what do you win when you beat these idiots? nothing. unlike the status that would be lost with a loss. idiots are idiots and need to stop talking like anyone cares about them. such a joke.
strikeforce is a joke for not taking the belt by force by now. the dude clearly ran to japan to hide and cycle and refuses to come back for a reason. his name starts with an F. Reply 2 years ago
All the guys that say Fedor is not good or in the top 10 P4P fighters are wrong but I do agree that he is not the best P4P nor is he the top HW out there but this fight should be between him and Overeem. If he wants the title he should go get it not make excuses not to fight for it.
No I am not talking about Lesnar being the best either... he is a joke too! Look for JDS to be in the top spot soon. Reply 2 years ago
And tons of MMA fighters, if not all, use some kind of performance enhancing drug. Don't be so insanely naive, there are hundreds of different kinds of "steroids" and it's impossible to test for them all. If someone does it properly, they won't get caught.
